Management don’t appreciate your hard work ,they treat individuals staff different .staff keep going to medical appointments section leader don’t stop and ask them what happen .Job arrangement unfair they want new staff to do everything’s but for those old staff they are like very free sitting there watching handphone the whole day.

Pros

Free lunch

Cons

Long hours working

Intern during Polytechnic days

Relatively easy work as they don't expect much from a poly intern, very routine work in general. Must take note of hierarchy as it is ingrained in the Chinese culture.

Sales earning has no limit

Due to covid-19 all road show being forced to stop. Nothing is hard about this job. The most enjoyable part of the job is that i control my earning, the more sales I made the more I earn.

Very obsolete & inefficient

The systems utilized are very inefficient and obsolete. There seems to be a huge unsaid feud between the 2 obvious ethnic groups. There is so much room for improvement that has yet to be settled.

Independent learning and good corporate working culture

Towards the end of year 2018, due to the many launches of new credit cards, applications volume went up. We have to clock in more hours to clear the backlog. Each of the contract staff has to clocked in extra 2.5hrs per day for at least 2 weeks. At the end of 2 weeks, we manage to clear the backlogs and resume back the normal work operations. There was unity as a team and it was all hard work being put in. I finally saw what a team would be to be working under an almost perfectionist boss.

Pros

There is a staff canteen which provides daily lunch menu at an economical price of $2+ per meal.

Cons

Peak season have to clock in more hours.

learning experience

As an intern in the credit admin department, I performed data entry functions and created a new filing system which increased the efficiency of the department. I also assisted in the clearing of paperwork to maintain smooth Back-End Operations and provided general assistance to senior members of the department.

Go only if you need a job

Upper management is made up mainly of Chinese nationals so expect most opportunities to go to their own countrymen (capable or not). They generally enjoy more leniency when they make mistakes and enjoy more recognition and praise when they do well. That being said, they pay fairly well and bonuses are pretty good when compared to foreign banks.

Pros

Canteen

Cons

Long hours, cronyism

Fun and Productive

workplace culture and workload for full timers were quite intense. because i was just an intern in Bank of china, things i have learned were relatively easy as i was assisting my mentor in analyzing the transaction. and also helped out in printing and filing etc.

Good balance between work and life

You can achieve good balance between work and life in BOC singapore branch compared with other banks

Bureaucratic and a typical Chinese SOE

It is a very political environment as everyone takes care of themselves. Plus there is a great mess in terms of coverage as overseas branches also compete with you on transactions. There is no clear guidelines internally for business coverage. The branch head acts like war lords fight for their kingdom instead of collaborating. Btw, there is no internet access from your desk top. Must visit internet corner to use internet! Surreal organisation in this internet world!!! The management does not invest in training.

Pros

Cheap lunch

Cons

Red tape and heavily skew to SOE culture as everything is handled top down.

Productive, Enriching and Fun

On a typical day at work, you are just updating the system and checking (because I was just an assistant). But there were days that I learn a lot from the Compliance team. When you're placed in that position, you start you understand why all banks need a good compliance team.

Pros

$2 lunches at Bank of China's canteen

Cons

I actually really like working there

Productive and fun workplace

Managers and tellers were easy-going and helpful. General data entry, searches, dispatching of letters to different departments and other ad-hoc duties. It gets a little hectic when it's promotion period.
