Management and Environment

The working environment is cohesive and people are generally nice and willing to help. Many long service personnels. The management has changed drastically since 2012, so it has become more like Top down approach and Business does not take "No" as answer. 1st and 2nd line of defence's senior mgmt is pro-business, which led to the downfall of the Bank.

Good work life balance and culture of inclusion

Credit Suisse is an equal opportunity employer, they believe in diversity in every way and mostly live by their code of conduct and ethics. Work life balance is good and management persevere to keep the moral up.

Wonderful training opportunities

The thing I love the most is their wonderful training opportunities. 50% of management are open and approachable. They have a "buddy system" for learning on the job. It is a problem when the department has office "group clicks" . When individuals get alienated this can counter office productivity. They have a steep learning curve if you just started in the industry.

Pros

Wonderful training opportunities

Cons

Steep learning curve for newbies

Thumbs Down

Overly rigid, overly hierarchical, old fashioned bank. There are no visionaries here, just politicians. This is not a place for those who seek professional development. A poorly managed institution who cloaks this by describing itself as "an entrepreneurial" organisation. If you are a blue-eyed Swiss you will be taken care of (politically as well as job security wise). Expect no direction from Management (MDs and Directors), as they are out to protect themselves and nothing more. The culture (as such exists) is basically a "free-for-all" where you sink or swim on your own. The pay is good and colleagues (VP and below) are great. A good place to park for a couple of years, collect a good salary and then move on.

Pros

Good brand on your CV, good salary, great colleagues

Cons

Poor management, way too much politics, "The Swiss Way"

The department moved offshore

I used my derivatives and change management skills to good effect, unfortunately due to the bank moving the department offshore to India, there were no roles that I wanted to take on.

Pros

flexable working

Cons

moved offshore

Great Place to work

Great place to work! Great management. I didn't want to leave but a personal event forced me to go back to my home country. If I had to work in the banking industry again I would definitely apply for a job at Credit Suisse.

Good place to learn Enterprise Risk Management

Good place to learn Enterprise Risk Management in CRO. Workplace culture is good and balanced. Management is supportive of new initiatives, specially Chief Risk Officer. The new organization structure is creating few challenges but should get stabilize for few years.
