A sure-shot career killer if you aren't ready to be a 24x7 slave
Ex-Consultant (Former Employee) - Singapore - April 20, 2014
Worst work culture I've seen in my decade long career. Not sure about other locations but in Singapore it was pathetic.
Lots and lots of work, extra hours, weekend-work, holiday-work, no holidays. No family/social life.
Leaving office 'on time' is called 'leaving early'. You absolutely have to spend 13-14 hours on an average on a daily basis. If you ever leave office once in a blue moon at the official shift-end time, you attract weird glances and unfavorable comments often.
And all this for no returns or rewards.
People who joined earlier and have reached high positions now simply don't want others to grow so that their positions remain secured. They are totally against allowing people to grow. Due to this, People working their guts out for years remain stranded at the same position with no increase in salary year after year.
I wasted invaluable 4 years of my career here, in CS Singapore.
To survive here, you must have a godfather or a godmother who will pull you along every time he/she moves up. Otherwise, life here is like serving a sentence.
One good thing that's come out in my favour after I've worked with them is, if I've survived in PTG at CS Singapore, I can survive anywhere. I've worked with a couple of other large firms in similar projects after my tenure at CS and I absolutely found things like cakewalk. Had no insecurities or issues at all.
Pros
Military like work culture, teaching survival techniques.
Cons
Buttering one's godfather/godmother works, Pathetic work-life balance, slavery-like employment, carefully hand-picked anti-employee people run the show as managers (not all of them)...

Good Learning Culture
AML Analyst (Current Employee) - One Raffles Link - July 22, 2013
Everyday the team is required to conduct client due diligence review of client population to ensure that the information maintained provides a comprehensive understanding of the client's profile and proposed transactional activity in accordance to local law and regulations and the Bank's policies. The type of checks and processes we performed for each account are similar but the scenarios and background might change the outcome of each case.
From this project, it give me a greater insights into AML.
Pros
Strong team, Infinite learning opportunities
Cons
Tight timeline

Stressful Work Environment but Manageable and Easy for Me
Test Manager (Current Employee) - Changi Business Park - June 30, 2013
A typical day at work is 90% meetings and 10% for doing the actual work. The meetings are mostly aimed just at status reporting and there is a tendency that same status will get reported for different meetings and to different individuals. Because of this it is common for people to stay late and on weekends to try to finish the majority of the work left out because of the meetings.
I've learned in this company that sometimes we have to just gather our courage and leave our comfort zone. That is why I am actively looking for a new job because I feel that growth is no longer possible here. In short, my career has reached the end of the road here.
The most enjoyable part of the job in Credit Suisse are the salary, shift allowance, and new office. Also, personally, I am happy working with my Singapore colleagues whom I've been working with since 2009. Our relationship has gone beyond just work and we are all friends now.
The problem right now with Credit Suisse also is the fact that no one is sure about his/her career now. I personally have been promised promotions since 2009 but nothing has happened. In fact, since 2009 my rating has been AAA (best rating possible in CS). But even with me performing the career growth aspect never materialized.
Pros
salary, shift allowance
Cons
little career growth
