Lab technician. Don't do management
Team Leader & (Laboratory Manager for a year) (Former Employee) - Christchurch, Canterbury - September 3, 2020
When working as a lab technician the environment can be fun and fast paced and supportive as the technicians help each other. Training is good depending on trainer and availability. If in management the job is difficult and lonely as no support is given when you are struggling to get on and stay on top of the workload. Voicing your issues results in nothing.
Pros
Great, friendly co-workers, team effort environment with technicians.
Cons
Long hours, insufficient support from management, overtime not recognise if on salary

Started great but over the years quality took a back seat to money
Lab Manager (Former Employee) - Pennsylvania - September 12, 2018
My group was always able to handle the work of 2 or 3 former GSK employees but eventually the quality of individuals i was able to hire put this in jeopardy. It all became about the bottom line. My boss literally told me i made too much money and could be replaced at any time. 6 months later i was replaced for a cheaper less qualified employee.
Pros
able to hire my own team
Cons
raises, life-work balance, management
