Fun but low pay

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Pay is low and have food provided at times. The pay structure can be improved as i was part time. I wouldnt join for part time. Not much good points..

Toxic management

You have to do everything, cooking tea, serving customers, making drinks. all by yourself… no matter how hard you try, promotion only by the duration you work with the company doesn’t make a difference if you work “harder” than others. Management is kinda screwed up, and communication fails despite having a short structure.

Cons

Low Pay

Okay workplace

Fast paced environment but quite fun to work at and convenient work location for me so no complaints. Worked during my school break, pay is okay okay.

Never Trust the Management. The worst ever.

The worst management ever. Boss is bias to people who cannot work and promote them to manager. Alot of empty promise from management and they will deny when you challenge them. Whoever work for them will regret. they will give increment to people they like.

Pros

Prepare to stand long and no lunch

Cons

long hours and salary is low compared to competitors

Not. bad place to work

If you work with friends it will be very fun. As a part timer the schedule is also very flexible, work load is generally okay unless it is exceptionally busy.

Fun place to work with friends

Pay could be better , $7/h is not a lot nowadays. Maybe the management can increase the pay to at least $9-$10/h? Would be more attractive for students and part-timers.

Pros

Fun, fast-paced environment

Cons

Low pay

Fast-Paced

Quite fast paced if there are many customers. You will also make many friends there and they're usually friendly . Can bring back home your drinks too!

Tiring

Tiring, fast paced job. pay was on a lower side. only hire a certain race, language barrier. hours are flexible. some workers there are friendly and approachable but the rest not really.

Fast paced

Drink preparation and kitchen work. Might be overwhelming during peak periods. Pay is on the low side. Most colleagues and supervisors are ok and nice. Meal breaks are short and usually during odd hours to avoid lunch/dinner crowd.

Pros

Free drinks

Cons

Low pay

Worst job ever

I have tried several part time / ad hoc jobs before trying out gongcha full time and I have to say that this is my absolute worst experience thus far Management wise - Poor management - overall manager is unprofessional, spams in group chat, and talks about non work related stuff in group chat - If anyone makes a minor mistake/dare to question manager about process, directly roasted in group chat (with ALL of the workers) - No clear channel of communication, was told by HR to inform through this certain process but at a later date was told something else altogether (aka to contact sb else) - biased management Work environment wise - I think this may not apply to all outlets (esp after reading positive reviews) but if you are unlucky as I am and get a fierce and unreasonable boss (it was almost to the extent that he/she was WAITING for me to make mistakes so he/she can pounce on me) you may be subject to fierce scoldings that imo was verging on verbal abuse - expected to learn everything when explained ONCE (or with other “more reasonable” ppl, 3 times max). HOWEVER (read next pointer) - simultaneously expected to learn everything at once aka no waiting until you are familiar with cashiering before moving into drinks. for instance, i learned kitchen closing, cooking tea, cooking pearl, clearing trash, serving customer, making drinks, closing sealer, cashiering (+ memoing all the diff discounts and various ways of claiming and which can be combined together and which can’t / the diff ways of paying and which discount and paying method cannot be used together and -

Pros

One free (Medium) drink per day.

Cons

Everything else

Nice job but with many cons

Worked for about 3 months, ended up quitting as I found a better job. Overall is pretty fun, but can be very stressful and tiring. You will have to learn to do almost everything, such as cooking tea/pearls, cashiering, barista, stocking etc. Honestly, the pay is not worth for the amount of work to do, since there are many other part time jobs with better pay and may not be as stressful. Break is also really short, eg 20min for 8 hours work. Its also not confirmed, I experienced many times where I didn't manage to go for break due to the large crowd. However the schedule is quite flexible, so it was manageable to work while having school at the same time. Schedules are decided by your manager/supervisor, and they can be quite biased and stingy at times. Don't expect to work more than 3 days a week lol. Have to speak up as well so you know what tea needs to be cooked. Some colleagues are pretty friendly, others not so much, but can only learn to suck it up since they're likely your seniors. If you're really interested to work in a bubble tea shop, I will recommend other brands.

Job pace

The crowd is okay. Doable. The people are friendly and make one feel welcome despit being new there. Too many people squeezed in a small work space and causing a lot of banging into one another

Fun experience but many cons to it

- gongcha HR always give wrong salary and you need to wait 1 month to get back the amount of pay they missed out - you need to learn how to do everything in the shop (stocking , cashiering, cooking of tea in kitchen , barista) , which the pay is too low for the amount of things we have to do - fun experience making friends and tea

Unfair work treatment

Gongcha doesn’t pay well and the job demand is high. The management is often biased and unfair, threatening to deduct our pay if we do not follw to their demands. Also the break is ridiculously short a full shift (8hrs) we only had 20min break

Super Fun!

Working in a popular F&B chain like gong cha was not easy at all, due to the popularity it has. However, it really trained me to be fast and efficient in all aspects of the operations which made me comfortable working in stressful environments.

Pros

good environment

Cons

low pay

Fun and nice place to work in!

Technically, have to learn everything from doing drinks to doing kitchen. First few days of work will teach, kitchen is the easiest and have to open up mouth to ask the bar people what tea to cook or need to start cooking pearl or not. As for the counter/bar, they do not expect you to know everything from the start, but the basic still need know. Workplace culture is good. But then there are all sort of people, some more rude, some very friendly, just try not to be disturb those on PMS lor. Manager is good to us as well so dont worry! Like f&b, there are peak period, so wtv do not understand, just ask or if ure doing bar, ask to switch roles if u think u gg to be a burden (most of the time, the seniors will ask u to do smth else b4 u even ask) As for scheduling, there are incentives if u hit certain number of hrs. As a new part timer, i can get to work 92 hrs in a month bc i work after lessons or when im free. During peak periods, its best to do things fast, but then it is encouraged to produce quality work instead of quantity.

Pros

Nice people, good incentives, fun

Cons

peak periods are kind of busy

Fun workplace

I was worked as a part-timer in Gongcha. I was previous still schooling in Christ Church Secondary School. Working in Gongcha had made me gain experience in retail. I have learned how to communciate well with all levels.

faste paced

Customers really eat your day up but the people make things worth your while. as long as you know your colleagues and not getting on their last straw, you good.

Pros

Free drink as long as you work

Cons

certain outlet managers very bossy

Bad Management

Unreasonable supervisors. Hard work usually goes unnoticed while minute mistakes are picked on. Supervisor scolds staff in front of customer which I feel is very disrespectful to both the staff and customer. Unfair work schedule. Values customer and overall profit more than the employee's wellbeing. Much to be worked on. After all, it's the happiness and well being of staffs that makes a company.

Pros

Less tiring compared to other f&b

Cons

Management

An alright workplace

Was a good experience, learned how to be a cashier and improved customer interaction skills. Hardest part was that when the customers piled up, it was really tiring. Best part was when the customers received their drinks and were satisfied.
