Toxic management
Customer Service Associate (Former Employee) - Singapore - August 24, 2022
I literally wasted almost 6 months of my life. Waited one month for this background check and i only worked here for 5 months. In this 5 months i was already so stressed up. Too much workload. Shortstaffed. The team mates in hsbc are the worst. They are not warmth to the new ones and not helpful at all. If you are not from banking, they look down on you. And if thats the case, why bother hiring right? Honestly it is so micro managed and toxic. And also, if you make any mistakes, they will just embarrass you infront of so many people. Even when you are new to work they will still expect you to know all. Also, hr is not friendly at all. When they wanted to hire, they were super friendly and even told me that i can call them any time when i need help but after joining I am not able to speak to them at all or when i email them, there is no reply.

Stressful
Bank Teller (Current Employee) - Serangoon Garden Estate - January 7, 2020
Now the management has changed. The process and environment has changed a lot. If the management was how it was previously, most likely most people would love to stay. Other than that, its fine.

Good environment, but be careful.
Advance Wealth Manager (RBWM) (Current Employee) - Singapore - June 4, 2017
Overall HSBC is a good place to work in. Colleagues are friendly and helpful. No discrimination.
However do be careful of the management. More often than not, they would want to protect their "rice bowl" at your expense. Although the organisation claims to be open, you will sometime find it hard to express or share your views.
Salary wise is acceptable, bonus is acceptable.
If your intention is to do a Sales role in HSBC, I would recommend otherwise. Discretionary bonus for sales role, not ideally the best as you may not get paid for the effort you put in.
Pros
Friendly working environment, good salary scale.
Cons
Discretionary bonus for sales role, not ideally the best.

Not Conducive, Discouraging And Lack Of Proper Training
Senior Officer (Former Employee) - Raffles Place - November 19, 2015
Politicking culture, limited patience for training, shorthanded, so tend to throw every aspect of work at newcomers too. A lot of blaming behavior, gossip and doubts about colleagues being passed around.

Typical bank culture
Quality Analyst (Current Employee) - Pasir Panjang - May 28, 2015
Depending on who your line manager is, it can be either a bad or good experience for you.
The work pressure can sometimes be overwhelming, which is not surprising for a bank.
Being a foreign bank has a good and bad side: the good part is that most of the time the local process and decisions will be influenced by the global management. The bad side is - most of the time the local process and decisions will be influenced by the global management.
Pros
high salary base (compared to other industries), a lot of annual leaves
Cons
Too many bosses, org structure is flatter than other companies which hinders employees from progressing up
