effort ≠ commissions

commission is not visible. how well you are paid is not based on revenue points. commissions are paid on peer ranking. very outdated company and slow......commissions are pathetic 😭

Great work life balance

Overall supportive culture, great place to work in. Management allows flexibility to work from home and gives time off for emergencies. Benefits are great as well.

Engaging Work Environment

The work ambiance is engaging with helpful colleagues. However, organisation is a large MNC hence, changes are slow and many work are still manual and communications between departments are fragmented. Staff are willing to go extra mile for customer service and problem solving, however, due to the fragemented culture amongst departments, the process becomes a tedious maze of back and forth communication.

Staff Health Benefits

Long hours, fragmented culture with organisation

Low chance of advancement

Low chance of advancement as everything is structured in my departmentSame daily routine.Bureaucratic. Everything is under your line manager's decision.Everything is specialized so you only do one small part of the chain. If you wanna a decent job without thinking about advancement or brainstorming in your career, then working here is a safe choice.Anyway, it may not be correct review for the whole bank but for my department only.

Good salary

No advancement in your career

Work too long hours

Due to restructuring, many staffs are working long hours to cover for the shortage of staff. The knowledge had been lost when the old staff are being retrenched.

Working hours are too long

Good environment, but be careful.

Overall HSBC is a good place to work in. Colleagues are friendly and helpful. No discrimination. However do be careful of the management. More often than not, they would want to protect their "rice bowl" at your expense. Although the organisation claims to be open, you will sometime find it hard to express or share your views. Salary wise is acceptable, bonus is acceptable. If your intention is to do a Sales role in HSBC, I would recommend otherwise. Discretionary bonus for sales role, not ideally the best as you may not get paid for the effort you put in.

Friendly working environment, good salary scale.

Discretionary bonus for sales role, not ideally the best.

Productive workplace

The workplace is rather individualistic. A typical day at work only have staff gathering for morning coffee and lunch breaks. Otherwise, the office is silent.

Organise and systematic, but tough working place

Everything must be done on time in tight schedules; No time to talk and inspire; Most of time have to work and stay late in order to complete the jobs, sometime needs also to come on weekends without pay; but staff is good.

no free lunch, work and stay late without pay even on weekends

Typical bank culture

Depending on who your line manager is, it can be either a bad or good experience for you. The work pressure can sometimes be overwhelming, which is not surprising for a bank. Being a foreign bank has a good and bad side: the good part is that most of the time the local process and decisions will be influenced by the global management. The bad side is - most of the time the local process and decisions will be influenced by the global management.

high salary base (compared to other industries), a lot of annual leaves

Too many bosses, org structure is flatter than other companies which hinders employees from progressing up
