I liked the managers and supervisors. The store managers changed often and they weren't always great but overall I liked the people I worked with. The customers weren't always great obviously. There was a serious problem with theft in our store which I'm sure played a big part in it closing in my area this year. They need to increase pay drastically. It was ultimately the reason I left even though I was waiting on a promotion. They dragged there feet too long to promote me and I was having a hard time paying for necessities even though I worked more than most my coworkers.
Work was ok, sometimes fun, communication was horrible with management and their employees, your replaceable they know it and act like it
The management at my store needed more training and the whole company in one needs better communication. Its a ok job for starting out or for a teenager
I had worked there before. The registers and the lay out of the store were all different. I enjoyed meeting new people and helping them with their selections.
Great team spirit
I was only hired seasonally.
The fairness of the company and the management. I accepted a voluntary early retirement as of this July
They are an excellent company to work for. I have truly enjoyed all my 27 years working for the company. I needed to make a change because of all the standing I did or I would not have taken a early retirement with them. I am looking forward to a chance to make a change with someone else like I did all those years working for them A typical day would be opening cash registers displaying the locked cases and all I aspects of handling customers. I learned so much about customer service and tons about jewelry. The part that is getting hard for me is standing all day
The people I work with and the cimpany
I need a job where I preferably can sit now because my knee is getting swollen standing
Cut throat backstabbing management there now. Don't care about either customers or store associates, and it shows in the floor traffic response.
Cut throat backstabbing management there now, that doesn't care about either the customers or the store associates. And it shows in the floor traffic response. As a result, they're closing stores left and right, and the New York Stock Market is threatening to delist them, as their share price has sunk to as low as 53 cents, and they struggle to maintain the $1.00 per share minimum. I feel sorry for the good employees, but JC Penney is circling the drain.

There is room to grow in this company, but you have to stay for a while in order to do that. Its not easy and I was so lucky to have the team I had since everyone was respectful and nice. Overall good place to start and theres room to advance if you work hard enough for it!
Having worked at JCPenney for about five years, I've outlasted 4 general managers at our store. Corporate doesn't give a flip about associates as they tend to keep on a vile, toxic HR manager in place. One that not only demeans customers and associates but will physically grab and assault associates. An HR manager who tells associates going through chemotherapy that its a "inconvenience to my scheduling". As a response to associates going through dark times, corporate HR's response is that "you shouldn't worry your managers with this information". All-in-all, avoid working here like the plague.
I was treated fairly and pay was low but when you love your job you accept it. I understand pay has changed for the better ad it has been two years since I worked there. Managers can make all the difference! Some thought they were above talking to us but then we would get one in that was glad to be there and made goal setting fun!! And achievable!!
Overall enjoy working for JCPENNEY'S the last 9 years! Pay could be better of course! Not happy having to change our dress code to wearing all black with a pop of red starting in February! We already invested our wardrobes to wear Red during the weekend! I wish to keep that instead of black all day every day! I sell what I wear, wearing colorful clothing! Black with black sounds so gloomy! wobedoing
