Rewarding but long hours

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Progressing from associate to senior associate to assistant manager to a manager, each year brings about new challenges within the audit function, and also brings about more flexibility, albeit increasing amount of stress.

Pros

Meal reimbursement and taxi claims for OT

Cons

Competitvie and remuneration

It is a very competitive environment, your peers will have to dedice weather to help you or grow in their career, the person that excells the most is the one that is best individually, or making people listen, not a very good place to meet friends,

Pros

organized and explained promotions since the start

Cons

long hours, work environment, impossible task for your status

too much work

Understaffed and too much work thats common with the industry. Budget hours shrink year after year and will require you to eat hours even if they say not to do so.

Not so bad if you know what you're getting into

You should know what to expect going in most likely. Figure out what you want to get out of the experience going in and it will make it more bearable.

Highly structured and toxic environment

KPMG Canada is supposed to be in the ''Big 4'' but is really running behind on others, they should really not be considered in the Big 4. Their audit technology is super old, their tools are not up to date and they have a real hard time doing the transition. This is why they mainly target government clients or do very low bids to beat the competition. On top of this, management is super toxic and not diversified. They are really not able to play in the high game lead, not sure why we even compare them to Deloitte or PwC.

Pros

Work-Life balance

Cons

lack of diversity, toxic management, not interesting clients, old softwares

Audit

Satisfaction goes with what client you get put on and what partner you work for... Your partner can change the whole dynamic of the workplace - every engagement can act as it's own small entity.

Stressful and huge workload with tight deadlines

Pros of working at an audit firm was that there was a lot to learn and the experience counted alot but we had to work with minimum supervision and the worker stress was at its highest due to its tight deadlines.

Run while you can

Nothing was good, absolutely hated this company. Too much work, seniors who were cut throat and would literally curse at you, favoritism, lack of diversity, too many Type A personalities. Run!!!

The learning curve is steep, but manageable. Your experience depends on your seniors, if they're supportive then you'll have a great time at work.

Work-life balanceWork-life balance at KPMG for interns (Vacation Trainees) is really okay. The seniors never demand you to stay over office hours.Pay & benefitsMy pay at KPMG is considered on par with other big 4 firms.

Great career development, horrible work-life balance.

This place will make you feel like your career is at the forefront for learning and growing which is great. The only sacrifice is that you have no work-personal life balance.

underpaid overworked

Audit function (year 2020):you know the meme that 'if you do a good job, you get to do other people's job too'? yup. thats KPMG; incompetence gets rewarded. hardworking competent individuals suffer with heavy workload and are slowly decreasing in numbers due to this reason (all are leaving the firm)KPMG SG is slowly being overtaken by mid joiners from different firms and malaysia, with these experienced hires bringing in their 'face time' culture (where online = hardworking), without getting anything done. These mid-joiners are diluting the friendly culture KPMG once had.you will have to protect yourself a lot, as there are a lot of finger pointing when anything goes wrong. there is no clear line on what your job scope is, reiterating again that if you show a bit of competence, you basically just do everything.despite audit being essential, partners are cutting our pay in the form of deferred promotion. there is no clear direction of what their response given the covid-19 pandemic. partners themselves say that the audit function is doing well, but then conveniently said that they are not 'meeting targets' when deciding to defer promotion.

Pros

nothing

Cons

long hours, underpaid, overworked, unappreciative

Great initiation into the field of accounting after college.

Great company to work for many reasons. You get the experience of working in various business environments. The a manager assigns you to various audits. You report to a supervisor, who in tern reports to a manager. The manager reports to the audit partner. You have many options in many fields. You may select audit, tax or specialized consulting.

Career Elevator

Great place to start off your career. The experience you will get is unmatched however the hours are not ideal at all. You will work 50-60 hours weeks On your salary and you will work a lot of weekends as well. The work life balance is their biggest pitfall other than that it is a great place to work.

A place where you have a freehand to polish yourself, with coercion from the top management

A place where you have a freehand to polish yourself, with coercion from the top management. Job culture is friendly and more of an informal organisational culture.

Pros

Aprendizado diversificado.

Cons

O salário pode ser um complicador.

Challenging work environment

- One is placed in a challenging environment but at the end a great set of skills are learnt from technical, soft skills, delegation skills, client interaction, problem solving skills. I am glad i had such experience early in my career.

No life work balance but productive

Management - If targets are not reached, a randomly selected lower staff member get their performance rating reduced. The more you offer personal favours, offering to collect dry cleaning, coffee.... The safer your rating. Hardest - Long work hours and lack of team work due to the type of culture. Culture - does not promote team work, its more of a fight your way to the top at the expense of your friendships, colleagues.... Cost cutting before delivery of service, if you service driven you feel your integrity is compromised. Enjoyable - There is plenty to learn, each day there is something new. Even though the hours are long and there's no work life balance you able to with in reason restructure your day (14 hour days) Learnt - Hard work is rewarding and you feel like you've contributed to society in a way.
