Overall company pay package is based on market benchmark. They do have activities for staff after work to relax themselves. Their culture is open-minded.

Toxic culture dominated by Indians and aussies (with infighting amongst them)

Toxic culture - small groups that fight against each other (and amongst themselves). Need to lick axx of / drink heavily with partners and directors at parties for career advancement. And employees pay for their own computer screens.Mediocre work quality.Office has not been renovate since 1970s.Basically all about profits for the partners

underpaid overworked

Audit function (year 2020):you know the meme that 'if you do a good job, you get to do other people's job too'? yup. thats KPMG; incompetence gets rewarded. hardworking competent individuals suffer with heavy workload and are slowly decreasing in numbers due to this reason (all are leaving the firm)KPMG SG is slowly being overtaken by mid joiners from different firms and malaysia, with these experienced hires bringing in their 'face time' culture (where online = hardworking), without getting anything done. These mid-joiners are diluting the friendly culture KPMG once had.you will have to protect yourself a lot, as there are a lot of finger pointing when anything goes wrong. there is no clear line on what your job scope is, reiterating again that if you show a bit of competence, you basically just do everything.despite audit being essential, partners are cutting our pay in the form of deferred promotion. there is no clear direction of what their response given the covid-19 pandemic. partners themselves say that the audit function is doing well, but then conveniently said that they are not 'meeting targets' when deciding to defer promotion.

Pros

nothing

Cons

long hours, underpaid, overworked, unappreciative

Nice place to work

It was an excellent experience working under KPMG. My seniors are very helpful they thought so many things to me from them I learned a lot from them. There was a very beautiful lunch area with a snooker table and a PS4 game to chill. Every 1-3 Monday 1$ beer I never forgot :) haha, nice place to work.

Pros

Atmostfare, Team mates, Environment

Cons

Working Stress

Competitive environment

KPMG Singapore has a competitive environment. It assists in growth but at the same time could be overwhelming to some. The firm does not focus on industry specialization as well

Good pay but bad leadership

- The pay scale, staff benefit and physical office environment are above average. - The working culture is less ideal. - The leaders often demonstrate inconsistencies in providing direction to the team and their actions don’t match their words. They are driven by ego.

Competitive, less work/life balance

Learned about the work culture in Singapore. Had direct client interactions and was involved in implementation from the scratch . Developing escrow and change management plans etc.

Rewarding but long hours

Progressing from associate to senior associate to assistant manager to a manager, each year brings about new challenges within the audit function, and also brings about more flexibility, albeit increasing amount of stress.

Pros

Meal reimbursement and taxi claims for OT

Cons

Long hours

Steep learning curve

Workplace culture: Plenty of growth opportunities, much training provided, but on the job you're almost thrown into the deep end of the pool. Form good relationships so you have people to turn to for help. Very young workforce, almost everybody is fresh out of university, managers are mostly within 10 years age difference. Nature of job: Prepare to slog your guts out during peak audit season. The nature of the job itself is demanding. You are expected to know your stuff or do research. Hot desking can be a boon or a bane. You bring your office supplies everywhere with you, which can be a burden on short engagements. Flexi-hours, meaning your supposed 9-6pm job can stretch to 10pm and later. Overall: Great stepping stone for fresh grads. If you're not into auditing, don't stay too long.

Pros

Many learning opportunities

Cons

Very long hours

Toxic culture in Tax

I was from the Corporate Tax Planning and Compliance department, where I worked for approx 4 years. Management is entrenched and blissfully unaware of sentiment on the ground. They favour staff who go out of their way to bootlick, and overlook how these staff will push their actual work to other staff members who are already overworked and under-appreciated. The key issue with the management is that the few who are aware of the extremely toxic culture do not make any attempt to stop it. Staff are divided into two camps - the bootlickers and the non-bootlickers. The former group will go out of their way to curry favour with management, and as a result have a lot of influence during day to day work and the appraisal process. The latter group will be dumped with significantly more work, yet get rated poorly by the management simply because they do not try to suck up. Staff turnover has been overwhelming high in the past three years. More than half the department is new. Experienced staff leave simply because their hard work (working ot past midnight almost everyday and being expected to come back to office on weekends) is not appreciated, and the toxic culture makes it unbearable. This is not the place for you unless you can withstand being manipulative, throwing your friends under the bus, and forsaking your morals for the sake of your career.

Pros

Wide exposure

Cons

Toxic culture, vicious cliques in the office, indifferent management

Good culture in certain teams. Need better pay and bonus. Innovative culture. Promotion is structured. Advisory has no engagement manager. Allocation of job is unfair.

Nice people, ok projects

Culture: People are generally nice and collaborative. Work life balance is generally observed. Work: Work can get boring after sometime given the advisory nature. Sometimes management push for projects that expand the team capabilities but generally very hard to deliver

Toxic Workplace

You'll work with people who constantly complain about no work-life balance and want to resign but they are the same individuals that perpetuate the 'overtime' culture. Expect working past midnight daily to meet expectation of managers and seniors alike. At times, unnecessary work is done that leads to working overtime. The work place thrive of inefficiency and its something you have to live with, working in this industry.

Pros

Younger working environment

Cons

Extremely inefficient

Helpful Colleagues but Long Hours

Young and vibrant colleagues since Big 4 traditionally recruits fresh university graduates every year. Wide exposure to clients in different industry, good mentorship from senior and managers and adequate, regular professional and personal training. Regular supper and drinking sessions with colleagues due to long hours during peak.

Pros

Young and vibrant colleagues

Cons

Lots of OT during audit peak

Dynamic environment

The working culture is dynamic and rapidly changes. Although you may have a reporting manager/director you are free to speak and work on various projects (provided that there are projects to be on and the engagement manager wants you on those projects). Management is open to discussion and ideas regardless of position.
