The seed for the formation of Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) was sown by Mr Peter Joe Chia in June 1976. It took root in 1977 when the board of social concerns of the Trinity Annual Conference, under the leadership of Mr Lee Liat Cheng, appointed Dr Chia Lin Sien to draft a constitution for its formation. This was subsequently presented to the Council of Christian Social Concerns in September 1980 for further action.

A pro-tem committee under the leadership of Mr Richard Tambyah, the chairman of the Council of Christian Social Concerns, subsequently formed to register MWS under the Societies Act. Registration was approved in October 1981, leading to the formal establishment of MWS.

Today, our spectrum of care meets the specific and diverse needs of 8,400 disadvantaged seniors, families, children and youth.

While MWS’ sphere of impact has expanded since our founding, our core spirit of social holiness remains unwavering.

Working in the Seniors Activity Centre (SAC) was meaningful and fun but highly stressful

The work was meaning and fun with lots of meaningful programmes catered to meet various needs of the seniors. However, the work was extremely stressful due to the poor management of my immediate boss. A lack of trust by her resulted in a constant scolding and talked down on staff; this was both demoralizing as well as hampering the functioning of SAC.

Laid back and slow paced environment.

Worked in a new establishment under MWS and it was rather slow paced compared to a hospital. Processes were rather unstructured and management was unprofessional.
