Overall pleasant
Work is allocated based on seniority, strong management team. There are many departments you can work with to achieve your work targets. Nice building and environment

Not fun and unfair
Bad management and unfair treatment so bad Never improve and still use hanko and document and old style Inflexible and not recommend to work there’s only had people can continue to stay

Culturally challenging
For an international bank the culture is still very Japanese. Salary is very below market standards but the worst is the benefits which is near exploitation for foreigners who are protected by local laws. Systems/infrastructure is outdated by 20 years. On the bright side management is very eager to push the bank forward to international standards.

Depends on your job
Working at Mizuho Bank had been a so-so experience, it depends on your job role in the bank. My job role did not have a particularly good work-life balance, work starts at 8.30am and can stretch till about 11pm at night even though official end work hours are 5pm, never have a day where we can end work at 5pm. Job scope is mundane, doing the same thing everyday and seems like there's not much growth, learning opportunities and job advancement as well.

Do not join the Credit Risk Management team
Stay away from the Analyst/ Associate role that requires Japanese language: 1) Despite being a low-level position, there is no proper training and you will be left to figure out on your own how to basically clean up messes. 2) You will also be expected to be able to answer loads of questions by the manager rather than her being the one whom subordinates should turn to for advice, although if you can then by right your roles should be reversed. 3) It turns out to be nothing more than a dead-end admin role stuck at this rank, just like decade-long employees with similar job scopes in other teams. On the other hand, try for the Associate/ Assistant Vice President credit analyst position instead: 1) Contrary to the so-called "at least three years of relevant credit risk experience in a front or middle office function", you will find that it is possible to join as AVP without any credit experience at all. 2) There will be help and guidance from other credit analysts and even the team lead.
