NCS Employee Review

Overall so so

Bad compensation for people who stay long.It depends on your luck and which boss you meet. Some projects are very political. There is no proper team lead in some teams and led to doing things our way. And changes are required because there's no proper communication beforehand.A supportive boss who encourages exposure to new activities. The Cons is the management is messy, and no proper KT to do a particularly challenging task.

Stable job

The stress level is determine by the project you go. The people are generally nice. But the salary here cannot compare with outside. The longer you work here, the more you are underpaid.

Great for freshies. Progressive leadership. Many opportunities.

Great place to start off for fresh graduates. Attended their fireside chats at my university and was intrigued by the vision and purpose of the company, so decided to join the Nucleus programme. When i joined, i found that the management is very progressive and visionary. The Nucleus programme is structured and there are a lot of opportunities.

Pros

Great place to start

Cons

Challenging work, but fulfilling.

Same role

Secure and safe learning environment for fresh grads, lots of useful (and secret) projects for probably all govt branches

Highly evolved systems of management are in place. Working culture varies from project to project depending on your project manager, but my experience is great. As a developer I have lots of autonomy to decide how to achieve my objectives and ample time to complete tasks. As of 2019-2021, NCS has provided a very structured employee training program known as NuCleuS, where it periodically sends full-time staff on short courses at NUS to slowly gain more certification (and ultimately get masters at the end of 5 years). On the "leaves" side of things, NCS provides a generous 18 days of annual leave, with off-in-lieu if public holidays fall on weekends. There's also birthday leave, family care leave, marriage leave, volunteerism leave, skills upgrading leave etc.Middle management may vary in quality by team, but the upper management are all really good people with lots of experience.

Pros

Comfortable and clean toilets (with tissue dispenser and automatic doors), modern cashless staff canteen.

Cons

A lot of responsibility when working for govt, such that it could necessitate occassional overtime.
