Overall okish company.
Software Developer (Current Employee) - Bangalore, Karnataka - April 19, 2022
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedTo get promoted you need to be in the good books of your Boss' boss. Otherwise, I don't think the promotion is going to be an easy ride. Tech wise it depends on which team you lands into.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
Dual standard management

Relaxed work environment if you're not on call with great management
Software Engineer (Former Employee) - San Jose, CA - December 17, 2021
Very aligned management from top down. Low stress. Compensation lower than other Fintech companies. Didn't feel challenged, didn't feel ownership of product due to frequent project changes.

Awsome place to work
Software Engineer (Former Employee) - Chennai, Tamil Nadu - January 6, 2020
Learning curve is way too high. Can meet super power minded people but talking like normal. Beasts in work. Inspiring environment and benefits. Loved to work here.

Great place to work depending on the team
Software Engineer (Current Employee) - Austin, TX - April 12, 2017
PayPal is an amazing place to work provided you are in the right team. Visibility to upper management and across teams is the key to getting promoted. You need to drive your own growth when it comes to technical skills outside everyday work. Not a lot of opportunity, time and encouragement for learning broad technical skills. Otherwise hard work is well recognized. Annual growth in compensation is subpar.
Pros
Wednesday bagels, free snacks, sodas and beer, healthcare

MTS2 - Software Engineer (Current Employee) - San Jose, CA - April 7, 2017
Great talent, good compensation and benefits.
Lots of growth opportunities up to a certain level, once you know the work then it becomes monotonous and you don't feel challenged.
Pros
Flexible hours, location, Great engineers.
Cons
Too much politics, too many re-orgs, cutting down on cost everyday.

Decent
Software Engineer Co-op (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - October 18, 2016
Worked at a subsidiary of PayPal at Boston. The experience was half way between decent and good. Had high expectations for the work but was disappointed. Very good people though, loved working with them.

Jobs at PayPal
Software Engineer positionsGood compensation, poor culture
MTS1 Software Engineer (Current Employee) - Austin, TX - April 21, 2015
Work-life balance good, fairly low stress environment, but if you don't fit a certain personality type, you will be relegated to bottom of the performance "calibration curve" and will get poor ratings and generally be ignored by management in favor of the teacher's pet types. Visibility is supreme at PayPal, and counts for more than results. So if you aren't a self-promoter, you will fade into obscurity.
Also there are frequent re-orgs and layoffs every few years.
Pros
Free snacks, good work-life, good compensation
Cons
Zero culture or team camaraderie, management horrible and rewards sychophants

PayPal has a great business. It's management is poor and chaotic. It has a huge legacy in C++. The code base is messy and lacks thoughtful design.
Pros
great business, decent benefits
Cons
old technologies, boring and tedious projects
