Working at Shopee has been a dynamic and enriching experience. The fast-paced environment constantly pushes you to learn and grow. Shopee fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration, allowing team members to work together and come up with creative solutions. While the workload can be demanding at times, the supportive management and clear communication help in prioritizing tasks. I've particularly enjoyed the opportunities for professional development through training sessions and workshops. The company offers competitive benefits, and there's a real sense of community among colleagues. However, the work-life balance may vary depending on the department and the projects at hand. Overall, my time at Shopee has been fulfilling and has provided me with valuable insights into the e-commerce industry.

fun and nice people

people there are nice and friendly, everyone is very willing to help each other. only downside is processes and criteria keep changing so there is no consistency in way things are being done

Good benefits and pay

Decent work balance depending on team. Alot of foreigners speaking own language. Access to gym. Free dinner if work after hours. Life there depends on manager too

Repetitive, No progression

Laidback work environment, can wear casually, but repetitive workload. A lot of structure in place, not messy. Benefits are good though, well stocked pantry.

Nice colleagues

My colleagues and managers were nice, helpful, approachable and supportive, pantry was nice. However, the multiple rounds of layoffs recently and shrinking size makes me wonder about their future prospects.

Fun and diverse workforce

A very young company with young and diverse workforce. Objective driven through a data driven approach. Work scope can change often and great adaptability is needed

Stakeholders make or break you

Worked with a really young yet capable group of teammates and stakeholders. The priorities from upper management at Shopee can change quite regularly, but great stakeholders made most of that manageable.

Pros

Pantry's stocked. Office's pretty well-located and designed, If you're in your 20s/30s, you'll find people here like yourself.

Cons

Deliverables can spring up on you last-minute with brutally tight deadlines, Business viability up in the air.

Do not recommend

Toxic work culture. Expected to work OT and stay up during every campaign (which is every month). Pantry is good and dinner is provided (if you stay late).

Company culture

cooperate with China's development centre, the Chinese company's culture becomes stronger than before. And some of the tech document are written in Chinese.

Collaborative and supportive environment

Everyone has a say, even interns. There are a lot of opportunities to speak up and share opinions, and others are always willing to help when reached out to!

Pros

Stocked pantry, free coffee, free breakfast

Cons

Nil

Fast paced environment

Fast paced job culture, you get to learn many things quickly but you may at times be overwhelmed. Company has flexibility and decent bonuses but it takes awhile to process.

Chill workplace

Work was very chill unlike what most people claim. No OT, people came late and left on time. Work can be a bit boring at times however as the product is quite mature and has little room for innovations (at least for an intern to work on)

Chinese Company culture 996

Now the world is returning back to normal (from covid), the saving grace of working at home were being cut and workers have to return to office.Pros:- Staff benefits to shop on the platform- Monthly goodie bagsCons:- Bad work-life balance- Seems to pay well at first, but when you consider your hourly rate (due to OT), its market rate. Not worth the stress

Struggling to reach profitability, very weak cash position. Don't apply even if you are desperate.

Most middle managers are inexperienced, poor at setting direction/delegating even with good intentions. Overly focused on upward reporting, becoming a paper-pushing company. Started to retrench people in Jun 2022, looks set to continue into 2023. Not good for overall morale. Struggling to make profits, yet burning alot of cash on unexplainable things. Hired too many incompetent middle management especially ex-consultants who only know how to paper push and not get things done. Used to be a better place when I first joined. Now I just regret for having stayed on so long.

Software engineer

If you are lucky, you get the right team where WLB and learning are optimal. Otherwise, there are lot of teams with toxic culture. Overall, a great place if you are looking forward to learn.

Best place to work

Fun place to work, great colleagues and working culture. L&D is great too, with lots of growth opportunity. Definitely recommend everyone to join. You’ll not regret joining this fun place.

Pros

So many pros

Cons

Too much pantry food, can easily gain weight

Good company to start your career

I have learned a lot and improved my technical skills during my time at Shopee. Management isn't that great from my experience, culture is highly team dependent. Most enjoyable part of the job is working with colleagues and a nice pantry.

Quite bad with a few Pros

As a part timer, this is hands down the second worst place ive worked in. Supervisor don't really care about people and the environment for part timers is just bad. Luckily I wont be working here for long. Don't recommend any part timers to work here, do it at your own risks.

Pros

Free lunch on Sunday, 1.5 hrs break.

Cons

Stressful environment with supervisor (differs from people to people)

Collaborative and understanding workplace

I was an intern at Shopee for four months and my experience there was great because I really get to be in a team that provides great working dynamic and learning. Welfare was good too.
