Productive place to work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Coworkers were nice. Company pays very well and is considerate of their employees work-life balance as well as their health. Many perks came with the position but no work place is perfect. On a positive note, you can see that they tried to keep their employees happy to improve profiency and have a positive work environment.

Sweatshop with benefits

Their turnover rate when I was there in 2021 was at 50%. You read that right. They lose HALF their staff every year and for a very good reason—you’ll work harder and longer than in most any other job you’ve had, and under chaotic conditions. They sell it as “controlled chaos” but don’t buy it—no one has any idea what’s going on, they don’t care about you, everyone is disposable, all they care about is the bottom line. You’ll get free food and good benefits, the pay is acceptable if a little underwhelming (especially given the workload). If you can make it a year you’ll have that glossy Spotify name on your resume which does open doors, but I’ve never felt more abused by a company in my life, and I’ve worked in some difficult places.

Pros

Food and benefits, status

Cons

Literally everything else.

A company with low pay and little to no experienced managers

Depending on the team you're part of there are inexperienced managers and leaders. If you don't stroke the egos of the right people, your job will be on the line. The compensation is not competitive and if you want to work at a company that over-compensates with "company culture" to cover the low pay and you can afford to live paycheck-to-paycheck then this is the perfect company for you. The company lacks diversity and it's rare that BIPOC employees are promoted to leadership positions unfortunately the majority of the company tends to keep BIPOC employees in lower-level positions. Also, don't bother working hard because it's not recognized depending on your team. The inexperienced manager that I, unfortunately, had was almost always "loud and wrong" (i.e. speaking in meetings just to speak but never adding value).

Cons

Inexperienced managers/leaders, pay is low and not competitive

Productive

Cool atmosphere and attitude, work-life balance is ok, responsibilities can be given to you if you are good at your job, well paid position, good projects

Culture

Most people at Spotify are amazing. However, Spotify is like any corporation and even though they say they care about diversity and inclusion they do not. It is all for show

Good to R&D employees

Good culture of not overworking and burning out, healthy work life balance encouraged. It can be difficult to move up, but I like that moving up isn't automatic based on seniority, and that the culture isn't hierarchical and overly focused on your job title or level. You are able to and expected to contribute at any level. Teams feel self driven and independent, not a lot of top-down oversight.

Spotify

Great culture, office life, and benefits.interesting industry but not many opportunities for career progression/promotion. Would still highly recommend Spotify as a great company to work for.

Poor leadership, no sense of direction

A company that grew too fast, overhired and then sacked some of the workforce not based on performance.Toxic workplace culture with constant micromanagement of employees, very little work due to budget cuts.

Pros

Private healthcare

Cons

Very poor management, no trust of employees

Great work environment but lack of direction

Loved working at Spotify, highly enjoyed my time. Had great co workers but felt constant re-orgs and changes in direction without transparency to be disorienting

I loved it here

Spotify has it faults but it's mainly team dependent. My time here was great and I've made some long lasting friendships here. I kind of miss being here.

Fun workplace, cool domain

Great people, a cool domain and pre-pandemic/ IPO a lot of great perks. Work culture has frayed some and top-down management has compounded the problem. Still a fun job

Pros

Trips to Sweden, great perks, good people, great tech infra

Cons

Comp is a little low, raises are low, re-orgs every six months

Remote opportunities way before Covid

Besr place I have worked at thus far!! Work/life balance is an actual thing at Spotify. I had no worries regarding micromanagement in my dept. I was trusted to get the work done and my supervisors were always available for help. If given the opportunity, I'd go back.

Cohesive & place to thrive

Spotify is loaded with learning opportunities and growing potential. There are ample perks not offered at most American companies and freedom that is not allowed in other work environments. Great place, brilliant co-workers.

Pros

Cons

work hours longer than expected
