About the Role

JN Medsys is a Singapore-based medtech company specialising in digital PCR (dPCR) technologies and molecular diagnostics.

We are looking for a hands-on and versatile R&D Engineer to support the development of our next generation of digital PCR instruments and products. The role combines product development, laboratory work and technical operations, and is suitable for someone who enjoys working across different areas in a small technology company.

Training in digital PCR and our technologies will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, prototyping and testing of digital PCR instruments and related products, including assembly, modification and evaluation of prototype systems.
  • Prepare and modify 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and simple mechanical designs, and coordinate with suppliers and fabrication vendors to produce prototype components.
  • Perform digital PCR experiments, product testing and QC, including preparation of samples, operation of instruments, analysis of results and maintenance of experimental records.
  • Assist with customer and distributor technical support, including responding to technical enquiries, preparing product demonstrations, troubleshooting and providing application support.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, contractors and external engineering partners on components, fabrication, purchasing and product development activities.
  • Support R&D projects and grant activities, including preparation of technical documentation, test reports, project updates and supporting information for grant applications.
  • Assist with routine technical and business operations, including purchasing, inventory, logistics, quotations and coordination with external service providers.
  • Maintain appropriate technical documentation, including engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), experimental records, QC data and product documentation.
  • Participate in other R&D and product development activities as the company's technologies and projects progress.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Competency in 3D CAD and engineering drawings, using SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion, Inventor or equivalent.
  • Good hands-on engineering aptitude and an interest in building, testing and troubleshooting prototypes.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory environment and willing to learn PCR, digital PCR and basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Ability to analyse experimental or engineering data and document results clearly.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through independently.
  • Comfortable communicating and coordinating with suppliers, customers and external engineering partners.
  • Willingness to take on a variety of technical and operational responsibilities in a small technology company.

Experience in medical devices, laboratory instruments, PCR/digital PCR, mechanical design, prototyping or laboratory automation would be advantageous but is not essential.

Fresh graduates with strong hands-on engineering skills are welcome to apply.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, adaptable and willing to learn. The position offers broad exposure to medical device development, digital PCR, laboratory automation and the commercialisation of new technologies.

The successful candidate will work closely with the company's technical leadership and external engineering specialists and will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as our new products progress through development.
