Full job description
Family Group: Allied Health
KLARIS is a cardiometabolic precision health research centre anchored at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, NHG Health. Operating on a Predict-Monitor-Treat framework, KLARIS aims to translate genomic, biomarker, and digital health data into personalised risk stratification and interventions for Singapore’s multi-ethnic population.
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist with primary responsibility for the receipt, processing, and custodianship of biological specimens collected from research participants. The postholder will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and in close collaboration with clinical and research coordinators to ensure that sample integrity, assay quality, and laboratory safety standards are maintained consistently across all studies.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, log, process, and store blood and other biological samples according to study SOPs.
Perform blood centrifugation and fractionation under defined time and temperature conditions.
Aliquot, label, and archive samples accurately using LIMS or electronic records.
Operate and maintain POCT devices (e.g. glucometers, HbA1c, lipid analysers) used in research studies. This includes performing and documenting quality control checks, reporting abnormal results to the investigator, support validation and rollout of new POCT assays.
Assist with microfluidics‑based assays, including reagent preparation, sample loading, running the assays, recording results and deviations; collaborate with engineers and scientists to improve protocols.
Maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate microfluidic devices and laboratory equipment, coordinate with vendors for servicing.
Prepare reagents and consumables; monitor inventory and raise purchase requests when needed.
Follow BSL‑2 biosafety practices, including waste handling and decontamination.
Assist in updating and maintaining laboratory SOPs, and preparation of documentations for ethics submissions, audits and regulatory inspections.
Skills & Attributes
Detail‑oriented and well organised, with strong attention to accurate laboratory work
Understands the impact of pre‑analytical sample handling on research data quality
Able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Takes ownership of responsibilities and follows tasks through to completion
Proactive and solutions‑focused, with a positive approach to problem‑solving
Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Life Sciences, or a related field
1–2 years of hands‑on laboratory experience (for Diploma holders); strong fresh graduates may be considered for entry‑level roles.
Proficient in blood processing techniques including centrifugation, pipetting, and aliquoting
Familiar with biosafety practices and comfortable working in a BSL‑2 laboratory environment
Prior experience in a hospital‑based or translational research environment preferred.
Experience with point‑of‑care testing (POCT) platforms in clinical or research settings will be advantageous
Exposure to microfluidics or lab‑on‑chip technologies is preferred
Familiarity with biobanking workflows and LIMS or similar electronic tracking systems preferred.
Why Join KLARIS?
Be part of high-impact precision cardiometabolic research with clear clinical translation
Access to advanced research infrastructure, exercise testing facilities and digital health technologies
Protected research time with strong academic and clinical mentorship
Clear career progression within academic–clinical research
Opportunity to help shape future precision exercise and rehabilitation services in Singapore
