Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Preparation & Support

  • Prepare, set up, and distribute laboratory equipment, chemicals, and other materials for practical lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  • Assist teachers during science practicals when required, including demonstrating techniques or helping students with equipment.
  • Ensure timely removal and safe disposal of used equipment, materials, and waste.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to and promote strict health and safety standards in all laboratory environments.
  • Maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure chemicals are labeled and stored in compliance with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment, including gas taps, fume cupboards, Bunsen burners, and eyewash stations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure all safety protocols are clearly communicated and followed.

Inventory & Resource Management

  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all science lab materials, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Order supplies and equipment as required, ensuring cost-effective procurement and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
  • Track consumables and replace items as needed to prevent shortages during lessons.

Technical Support

  • Provide technical assistance to teachers and students on the correct and safe use of laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation and testing of new experiments or demonstrations.
  • Keep up to date with developments in science education technology and laboratory techniques.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment use, breakages, and chemical logs.
  • Support with the organisation and logistics of science events, competitions, or exhibitions.
  • Assist in the setup of practical exam stations for internal and external assessments (e.g. IGCSE, IB, A-Levels, etc.).

General Contribution to School Life

  • Collaborate with teaching staff and leadership to improve lab operations and teaching support.
  • Support the science department in developing instructional materials and displays.
  • Participate in school-wide safety drills, staff meetings, and training sessions as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or equivalent).
  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting, ideally within a school or educational institution.
  • Familiarity with international curricula (e.g. IB, Cambridge IGCSE, A-Levels) is an advantage.
  • Certification in laboratory safety or first aid (preferred but not essential).

Key Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and science equipment.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and proactive in managing resources.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and students.
  • Commitment to supporting student learning in a multicultural, international environment.

Safeguarding:

The Perse School (Singapore) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All candidates will be subject to rigorous safeguarding checks, including reference checks, an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, and verification of qualifications and employment history.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding, all staff are required to uphold the school’s safeguarding policies, attend regular training, and promote a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
