Job Description

You will perform a wide variety of molecular microbiology and diagnostic microbiology tests on patient specimens and report results of the tests according to established protocols in the Microbiology Section of the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM) in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and in the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), to help clinicians diagnose, treat diseases, and monitor therapy.

You will also perform receiving and sorting of specimens, assessing suitability of specimens for testing, data entry of test requests, and rejection of specimens that are unsuitable for testing.

You will participate in quality assurance and quality control programmes in the Section, assists in providing on-the-bench training for new staff and attachment students, assists in initiatives to review and improve processes within the Section to achieve organisational goals, and support the Section Leader in operational and administrative matters.

Job Requirements
  • Preferably Bachelor’s Degree in Laboratory Science, Clinical Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or any other equivalent qualification
  • Fresh graduates or candidates with no prior laboratory experience are welcome to apply; training will be provided
  • Candidates with prior experience in sequencing work (e.g. NGS) in a clinical diagnostic laboratory setting will be preferred
  • Familiarity with laboratory quality systems (e.g. CAP, ISO, or equivalent) is an advantage but not mandatory
  • Able to work efficiently, meticulously and responsibly in a fast-paced environment independently, as well as in a team
  • Possesses good interpersonal, organisational, coordination, communication, and computer skills
  • Able to work 3-rotating-shift work patterns, including staggered and extended working hours, and coverage after hours and on weekends and public holidays to meet the needs of the department and hospital
  • Successful candidates will be given a 1 year renewable contract, renewable or convertible to regular subject to performance.
