UWCSEA Dover has a vacancy for a Part-Time Teacher of Tamil for our Home Languages Programme (HLP) from September 2026.

The Home Languages Programme is for students who want to maintain a language spoken at home but who do not study this language as part of the academic curriculum during the school day at appropriate level. This programme offers students the opportunity to gain cultural understanding of the language, as well as improve their linguistic skills to gain age appropriate fluency in their home language.

The students’ ag es are from 4 to 1 6 ye ars o ld. Classes are taught in small groups of 3 to 6 stud ents of similar ag es and linguistic levels and will take place after school (or at lunchtime for some younger students).

Main Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and teach classes as required.
• Exhibit good classroom management skills.
• Use digital resources to enhance students’ learning.
• Provide samples of students’ learning in the school online learning platform for parents to follow students’ progress.
• Provide feedback to parents
• Collaborate with the other teachers of the Tamil Language Department in developing a Tamil Language Curriculum.

Person Specifications

• Applicants must be degree holders with language teaching experience. Candidates without teaching qualifications but possess experience teaching age groups from 4 to 1 6 ye ars o ld with appropriate resources are encouraged to apply.
• Candidates must have the ability to teach Tamil to students who speak Tamil as their home language or are Heritage speakers of Tamil.
• A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
• Contribute positively and collaboratively to the development of Tamil Language and Culture in the Home Languages Programme.
• Promote cultural exchange and cross-cultural understanding, and to embed Tamil customs, history and traditions in the lessons.
