The Patient Service Officer (PSO) provides clerical, administrative, and reception support to ensure smooth ward operations. Working closely with nurses and other healthcare staff, the PSO helps maintain accurate patient records, supports clinical processes, and delivers quality service to patients and their families.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain records of patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Prepare route charts/forms for admissions and discharges.
  • Assist nurses with scheduling procedures, updating patient movement, and filing investigation results.
  • Arrange discharge follow‑up appointments with clinics or hospitals.
  • Ensure accurate charging of services and consumables before discharge.
  • Manage ward inventories, requisitions, and stock counts using SAP system.
  • Handle messages, telephone calls, and concierge services (mail, newspapers, flowers).
  • Maintain nursing station cleanliness and order supplies.
  • Guide and supervise junior Patient Service Assistants.
  • Coordinate rosters and staff deployment when required.
  • Assist in onboarding new staff (files, access cards, system applications).
  • Liaise with support services for equipment maintenance and breakdowns.
  • Uphold infection control practices and patient safety.
  • Foster good relationships with patients, relatives, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • Minimum GCE ‘N’ level qualification.
  • Able to commit to a 5.5 day’s work week (office hours), alternate Saturdays off.
  • Basic computer proficiency; ability to use hospital systems (SAP, EMAR).
  • Clerical or healthcare support experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask in a demanding environment.
  • Work Environment: Exposure to infectious diseases; interaction with demanding patients and relatives.
